“Commissioned Chch Electrical to do some cabling for a solar system on a “charge up” basis. The work was done well. But, charge up does not give the contractor licence to charge whatever they like. There is a requirement for charges to be “reasonable” in the Construction Contracts Act. Anyway I didn’t think $96/hr for electrician and 60% markup on supply items was reasonable. Keep your eyes peeled and maybe get a quote with a breakdown so you can decide if you think it’s competitive.”
